He is best known for the Honor Series novels, his storytelling style as a speaker, and Reader Rendezvous events around the world. His readers span the globe, and some proudly call themselves Wakians after Peter Wake, the central figure of the series. Robert specializes in maritime topics across the oceans. He's also extremely well-versed in Victorian-Edwardian world history, and is an experienced seaman, as his audiences have learned to appreciate.
Part of Robert's love of the sea is a reflection of having grown up sailing on the waters along the southwest coast of Florida. When not traveling for research, lectures, or events, he lives on Pine Island, the same coast where he grew up. And, yes, he still goes to sea under sail!

Strategic vision and planning through historical analogy landed Robert military work as a consultant, some of which included: the Distinguished Military Author Series at the Center for Army Analysis at Fort Belvoir, near Washington D.C., and being a Distinguished Lecturer at the U.S. Southern Command, the U.S. European Command in Germany, and for the Supreme Allied Commander Europe at NATO Headquarters in Belgium. He also has lectured at the Office of Naval Intelligence, the West Point Society, the Military Officers Association of the United States, the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency, and various other government and military organizations.
